“The average woman would rather have beauty than brains, because the average man can see better than he can think” – Unknown
Just caught a story about Desmond Hatchett, a 33 year-old Knoxville resident who has 30 children with 11 different women. Hatchett made news lately by asking the judge to give him some relief on child support payments.
Some notes. First, Hatchett has a minimum wage job and pays 50% of his income to child support – the maximum allowed by the law. Given that this 50% of minimum wage goes to 30 kids, there’s not a lot to go around. Further, the split isn’t equal – the law recognizes that some kids will need more depending on their age. The lowest paid child gets only $1.49 a month.
I seriously doubt any judge will tell Hatchett he should get to keep more of his paycheck. From my standpoint though, I think Hatchett’s getting off easy. I have three kids with one woman and make well above minimum wage – but I guarantee you the kids have access to way more than 50% of my paycheck. From housing, to clothes, to transportation – the financial decisions we make are based largely on the kids and what they need.
50%??? Stop whining Hatchett.
(Side note: 30 kids with 11 women means he has a significant number of multiple-child ladies. These girls obviously don’t care any more that Hatchett has no intention of being a father or having a relationship.)
