Maybe Slavery Isn’t So Bad Sometimes

“Better to starve free than be a fat slave” – Aesop

Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings is apparently not up on his Aesop. Back during the recent NFL labor dispute, Peterson described playing for the NFL this way: “It’s modern-day slavery.” Today Peterson signed a new contract worth up to $100 million over seven years (with $36 million guaranteed). The deal makes him the highest paid running back in the NFL (and the highest paid in league history according to one report).

The massive sellout brings a tear to the eye and a song of lament to the heart …

“And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?” – Pink Floyd, Wish You Were Here

I don’t know how they got to you Adrian …
