“If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason.” – Jack Handey
In a move that would make Treebeard and the other Ents happy, the city of Charlotte has levied a $4000 fine on Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church for excessively pruning its own trees (story here). That’s right, the church pruned back trees on its own property (which it apparently does every 2-3 years), and was told by the city that they had trimmed the trees too far and would now be fined.
I don’t even know if this needs further comment … but perhaps a touch of snark is in order.
Really? I own land, with trees on it; trees that I prune beyond the limit that would be (if I had any idea it existed) prescribed by the city-approved forester – and I’m fined $4000 (and given the option to lift the fine if I replace all of the trees with new trees). That seems pretty steep for a gardening dispute – especially when it’s my garden.
