“I have never been one who is comfortable talking about my faith in the political arena. In fact, the pandering that typically occurs in the election season I find to be distasteful. But for those who have asked, I freely confess that Jesus Christ is my personal Savior, and that I seek His guidance in all that I do.” – Congressman Ron Paul
Supposed Republican front-runner Mitt Romney raised $1.9 million in the first quarter of 2011. Tea Party firebrand Michele Bachmann raised $2.2 million. Ron Paul, long-time constitutionalist (and one of my favorite politicians of all time) – raised $3 million. Well done doctor Paul, well done.
These are paltry sums in political terms, but at this point in the game, fundraising prowess does matter somewhat. Further, Paul’s support appears to be coming from individuals, and in small chunks – an indication of broad support.
That a freedom-loving constitutionalist would be doing so well is a good sign.
